Mitch is dead, and everyone’s stopped their lives to deal with it. All the Boston students, plus Grams and Pacey, come back for the funeral. (Evidently all Pacey’s relatives — including Gretchen, who lives less than a half-day’s drive away — had better things to do.) Jen doesn’t know how to help Dawson, and says so to him. Joey thinks she does, and gets rebuffed. Dawson himself is handling as much of the preparations as he can because Gale has fully broken down, though when he does open up, it’s to tell Joey he blames himself entirely for Mitch’s death. This is such a relentlessly grim one that we better get at least three kooky ones to balance it out, but for now, say hello to our episode on “The Long Goodbye”!
